Should You Choose The Ford Edge Or The Ford Escape For Your New SUV?

You know that you want a smaller SUV that offers plenty of power, an ample amount of both passenger and cargo space, and a plethora of safety and infotainment technology. In your search for this type of you vehicle, you may have even come across the impressive compact SUVs that Ford has to offer, the Ford Edge and the Ford Escape. While both of these would make a viable option for your SUV needs, which one would be a better choice? Here are a few differences and similarities that may help you make up your mind.

  • Price - The starting MSRP of the 2018 Ford Edge is $29,315 and the starting MSRP of the 2018 Ford Escape is $23,940. As the trim levels rise, the prices stay relatively the same distance apart, at about $6,000 or $7,000 apart. You do have to remember, though, that the Edge is bigger than the Escape, which equates for a slightly more expensive manufacturing cost.
  • Space - Like we said above, the Edge is larger than the Escape. Both models offer five seats, which can be folded-flat for added cargo area, but the Edge contains more over-all passenger and cargo volume, with 113.9 cubic-feet of passenger and 73.4 cubic-feet (with the rear seats folded down) of cargo versus the Escape's 98.1 cubic-feet of passenger and 67.8 cubic-feet of cargo.
  • Interior Amenities - Both models offer the same infotainment and safety technology, but you'll find a more spacious and comfortable seating arrangement in the Edge and more updated design features in the Escape.
  • Powertrain - As far as power goes, the Edge has more powerful engines from the base to the top Sport trim than the Escape, but the Escape offers far superior fuel economy, with an EPA estimated 23/30 city/highway miles-per-gallon rating compared to the EPA estimated 21/29 city/highway miles-per-gallon rating in the Edge's most efficient model. Both vehicles have superb handling and acceleration power and offer an Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system.

Whether you're driving in Utica, Rome NY, Whitesboro, Herkimer, or New Hartford NY, we suggest stopping by our Don's Ford dealership to take a closer look at each of these models. Both are excellent options, it all depends on what your preferences and price range would match best.
